Welcome to the world famous Blue Pub in Methven, Mt Hutt Village - located right in the centre of town!The pub to be after a hard day in the mountains enjoying all the different aspects of this beautiful amazing space.
Earthquake Update - well we were VERY lucky here at The Blue mainly due to the structural steel we added during the 2005 renovations. We did lose a chimney which fell onto the roof and verandah of Samuels causing some damage but not too major. There are a few new cracks to add to the character of the place plus a bit of plaster damage and we did end up with a lot of broken glasses and product on the floor not surprisingly.
The bars, cafe and accommodation are all operating as per normal and we feel very fortunate to have come out relatively unscathed. Our hearts go out to all those not so lucky in Methven as well as the surrounding areas of Horarata, Darfield, Coalgate and of course Christchurch.
After a hard day tramping, mountain biking, rafting, fishing, skiing, snowboarding or any of the outdoor pursuits we have on offer; there is nothing better than settling down on the verandah enjoying a cold beer with some friends and reflecting on the day's adventure.
Once you have recharged the mind, the body will need to be charged up so try our excellent food, either in the Cafe, outside on the verandah or just pull up a stool at the bar and enjoy the friendly atmosphere. Our new winter menu has some great pub grub available as well as a delicious a la carte menu for the more discerning diner. While trying Chef Craig's tasty meals, our friendly staff can advise you on a wine from our extensive wine list. We have a great balance of New Zealand white wines (the best in the world!) with some new Kiwi reds to help complement the fantastic Australian reds available. There is sure to be something for you...
To top off the experience, our dessert menu is there for the begging and is bound to meet even the most discriminating sweet tooth needs. Just try our Chocolate Marquise , rich chocolate mousse on a mud cake base served with bitter sweet ganache, caramelized oranges and soft cream or the famous Denheath Custard Square served with hot fudge sauce.
If you are looking for somewhere to lay your head for the night, you can stay upstairs in our true kiwi style pub accommodation. Our rooms are warm, clean and comfortable and there is a large sunny private verandah for you to chill out on with amazing views .
We also offer facilities for functions and conferencesin Samuels Bar. With the capacity to seat up to 100 people, it's a great choice for your next get together, work do or party. With the summer season approaching, make sure you arrange your christmas party with us! We can provide a wide range of different menus for functions - from nibbles and savouries, right through to buffets and plated meals.
The Blue likes to think that it's one of Canterbury's major live venues for music and many renowned artists have played here. We offer the main bar as a venue and also Samuels Bar for the bigger touring bands.
